Recent periods of high temperatures across Europe led to over 35,000 fatalities. Germany recorded a record 15,800 heat-related fatalities during the summer season. Meanwhile, France connected a sharp rise in drownings directly to the intense summer heat affecting the region.
Conditions continue to be harsh in the United States in addition. Severe heat and active wildfires spread across the country from Texas all the way to the West Coast.
