The brother of a Muslim police officer slain in the attacks said he was disappointed by those calls. Mamdani appeared next to Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He would not remain absent.

Separately, his administration launched a free childcare programme for two-year-olds. The launch encountered high demand and problems. Mamdani also commented on the city withholding early information about toxic air after the 9/11 attacks.
